Final Cut at the Wyndham: Picks, Props & Players to Watch

The Wyndham Championship, the final regular-season FedEx Cup event, was delayed due to thunderstorms in Greensboro, NC. Round 3 will now begin later this morning after several players, including current leader Cameron Young (15-under), complete Round 2. The third round is expected to begin between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. EST with players teeing off in threesomes.

Only the top 70 players will continue into the FedEx Cup playoffs, making the Wyndham a make-or-break tournament for many. The winner not only takes home $1.4 million, but also earns 500 FedEx Cup points. For players on the bubble, like Cam Davis (3-under through 11 holes in Round 2), making the cut and finishing strong is essential to extend their season into 2025.

Several top players, including Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, currently ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the FedEx Cup standings, have the luxury of a weekend off while still collecting a paycheck. The top ten players after the Wyndham will split a $20 million bonus pool. Scheffler, holding the top spot, will earn $10 million for his performance this season.

If weather delays persist today, check out Happy Gilmore 2 for some lighthearted entertainment. The film features cameos from fan-favorite athletes, musicians, and golfers including Scheffler, McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Fred Couples, and others. Scheffler gets in some funny moments with his signature dry humor, and Travis Kelce appears as a snarky restaurant manager. He fires a waiter played by Bad Bunny, who Happy then hires as his caddie, leading to more laughs.

The movie is classic Adam Sandler, full of heart and irreverent humor. His love and respect for the game shine throughout the story as Happy tries to save a fictional version of the PGA Tour from a rival organization that resembles LIV Golf.

Projected Winners and Value Plays

The projected cut stands at 3-under as of 8:00 a.m. EST. The leaderboard is still shifting, but here are the top contenders:

  • (+180) Cameron Young (15-under): Massive distance off the tee and consistent putting have fueled his strong showing. Young is chasing his first PGA Tour title, and a win here would lock in his FedEx Cup spot and generate Ryder Cup buzz.
  • T2 (+575) Sungjae Im (12-under): He’s had back-to-back rounds of 64 and has posted 24 rounds in the 60s at this course. Im is primed for a deep run and has plenty of motivation with playoffs on the line.
  • T2 (+1400) Mac Meissner (12-under): A sharp short game led to a 63 in Round 2. If his wedges stay hot, he can challenge for the win.
  • T4 (+480) Aaron Rai (11-under): Last year’s Wyndham winner is playing well again. If he stays steady following the restart, he’s in great position to contend.
  • T4 (+1800) Mark Hubbard (11-under): A strong 66 in Round 2 puts him within striking distance. Hubbard could be a sneaky value play this weekend.

Morning Betting Takes (Before the Cut)

Leader props to consider:

  • Young vs. Rai (head-to-head): A great early matchup to watch and a potentially profitable bet.
  • Young’s front-nine score prop: Could offer solid value if he continues his hot start.
  • Im as a value play: With early odds around 17-to-2 and strong play on Bermuda greens, he’s a solid option.
  • Meissner as a longshot: He’s facing pressure, but there’s upside if he stays aggressive.

Final Thoughts and Watchlist

  • Watch how Young and Rai finish their remaining Round 2 holes. Momentum could carry into the weekend.
  • Keep an eye on the weather. With overcast skies, possible rain, and winds between 10 and 15 mph, conditions may fluctuate. Players who thrive in messy weather could have the edge.
  • Track player trends. Im and Meissner are in great form with firm greens and scoring opportunities ahead. Both are strong candidates for a Saturday surge.
