Top Waiver Wire Targets for Week 2 Fantasy Football

Week 1’s waiver wire picks all offered something.

Braelon Allen scored a touchdown, Michael Penix Jr., had 298 passing yards, Xavier Legette was targeted 10 times, and Aaron Rodgers’ willingness to pass made Pat Freiermuth an interesting tight end option going forward.

Week 2’s picks again come from players who are rostered in less than half of NFL fantasy leagues. It’s a mix of overreaction to Week 1 performances and picking up players with favorable matchups.

Geno Smith

Who expected 362 passing yards from Geno Smith in Week 1? It came with one touchdown and an interception, so it wasn’t the best performance for fantasy purposes, but such high usage breathes fresh life into Smith as a fantasy option.

Las Vegas faces the Chargers this weekend. Los Angeles conceded 249 passing yards in Week 1, even with the Chiefs often looking anaemic in the passing game. If Kansas City can do that with Xavier Worthy injured and Travis Kelce ineffective, what can Smith put up?

Baker Mayfield is facing the Texans. Jared Goff is up against the Bears. Justin Fields has the Bills. If you’re riding with any of these three as your starting QB, Smith could be a better alternative in Week 2.

Romeo Doubs

Romeo Doubs was targeted four times for 68 yards in Week 1. Jayden Reed was the only Packer targeted more often, and Doubs was targeted twice as frequently as Matthew Golden.

He’s not going to be Green Bay’s WR1, but Doubs suddenly has value in deeper leagues. Leading throughout the game, the Packers only passed the ball 22 times. The game script won’t necessarily work that way against the Commanders.

Jordan Love will be forced to throw the ball more if Green Bay is trailing. That plays further in Doubs’ hands as he seemed to be a favored target of Love’s throughout their win over the Lions.

Kayshon Boutte

Even with almost 14,000 adds across NFL Fantasy leagues, Kayson Boutte is only rostered in 0.3% of leagues. Boutte had 103 receiving yards on eight targets and six receptions.

New England didn’t look great against the Raiders. The game script made Drake Maye threw the ball 46 times. Boutte isn’t exactly a lock for 100 yards per game, but the Miami Dolphins are a perfect matchup.

Miami conceded 262 passing yards in a blowout loss to Daniel Jones’ Colts. Picking up Boutte is a good way to fade this Dolphins defense.

Hunter Henry

Like Boutte, Hunter Henry has the luxury of facing the Dolphins this weekend. Henry was also targeted eight times against the Raiders, and has decent fantasy pedigree, with two seasons as TE8, and having been TE14 and TE15 in the last two seasons, respectively.

Colts tight end Tyler Warren had 76 receiving yards on nine targets against Miami. He earned four first downs and had 10.9 yards per reception.

Henry is capable of putting up similar numbers. He’s also got a better quarterback in Maye.
