Sandman Sports Launches The Edge, an AI-Powered Prediction Engine Built to Help Bettors Find Value, Not Just Picks

Sandman Sports Launches The Edge, an AI-Powered Prediction Engine Built to Help Bettors Find Value, Not Just Picks

[Cincinnati, Ohio] — September 1, 2026 — Sandman Sports today announced the launch of The Edge, a new AI-powered sports prediction and analytics platform designed to give bettors deeper insight into the numbers behind the market and help them make more informed decisions.

Unlike traditional picks services that attempt to generate a recommendation for every game, The Edge is built around a simple principle: if the data doesn’t show enough value, the model passes.

Since its initial pilot began earlier this year, The Edge Picks of the Day have hit at a 65%+ rate across multiple sports, building momentum as the platform expands into NFL and college football this fall.

“The goal wasn't to create another picks site,” said Sandman Sports co-founder and CEO Eric Bierman. “Sports fans have never had more information available, but they've also never had to sort through more noise. We wanted to build the platform we always wished existed, one that brings together predictive analytics, expert insight, rankings, and data-driven research in one place to help people make smarter decisions. Whether you're competing in one of our contests, setting a fantasy lineup, or making your picks for the weekend, The Edge gives you the confidence that comes from having better information.”

From Raw Data to a Pick or a Pass

The Edge continuously brings together multiple data sources, including live odds, team form, pace, situational splits, betting splits, star-player status, and weather where relevant.

The platform then uses a proprietary model combining season-long performance, recent form, situational data, pace and other sport-specific inputs to generate projections that are then compared against current market lines.

The model applies sport-specific statistical approaches to project outcomes, including Normal CDF modeling for basketball and Poisson-based models for hockey and baseball.

The resulting projection is compared against the current market line. When the projected edge clears The Edge's threshold, users receive a graded pick with a confidence tier and edge rating. When it doesn't, the platform returns NO PICK.

That distinction is central to the product.

Built for Research, Not Hype

The Edge is designed as a research tool rather than a sportsbook or traditional pick-selling service. It does not accept wagers, hold funds, or move betting lines. Users remain in control of where and how they place their wagers.

The platform also avoids forced volume and exaggerated claims common in the sports-picks category. Every recommendation includes transparent confidence information, and PASS calls are surfaced when the model does not identify sufficient value.

Core features include:

Daily Graded Picks

Moneyline, spread, over/under and player prop predictions across the NFL, college football, NBA, college basketball, NHL, MLB, MLS and PGA Tour, including PASS calls when the model doesn't identify an actionable edge.

Confidence Tiers

Every pick includes a confidence rating, giving users an easy way to see how strongly the model favors a particular play.

Edge Tags

When the model materially disagrees with the market, a "Verified Edge" tag highlights the opportunity so users can prioritize the strongest projections on the slate.

Betting Splits & Star-Player Form

Users can examine public betting trends, look for potential indicators of sharp money, and review recent performance from key players alongside the model’s projections.

Multi-Sport Coverage

The Edge provides predictions and analysis across the NFL, college football, NBA, college basketball, NHL, MLB, MLS and PGA Tour, giving users year-round coverage across many of the sports they follow most.

Designed for Sports Fans Who Want to Go Deeper

The Edge was created for users who want more than a simple list of picks. By bringing predictive analytics, rankings, research, and market information together, the platform gives sports fans a centralized place to investigate the numbers behind their decisions.

“I've explored a lot of sports analytics platforms over the years, and The Edge immediately stood out,” said Mike Paston, member of Sandman Nation for 20+ years. “The amount of information, research, and analysis available in one place is impressive, but it's presented in a way that's actually easy to use. It has quickly become one of my favorite resources before making my weekly picks.”

Nate Blackstun (Co-host of the St. Louis Syndicate Podcast) agreed.

“The first time I used The Edge, I kept finding myself saying, 'This is awesome,'” said Blackstun. “Every time I clicked on another page, there was another tool, another ranking, or another piece of analysis I wanted to dive into. If you're a sports fan who loves digging into the numbers before making your picks, you're going to love what Sandman has built.”

The Edge is available now with a free seven-day trial, allowing users to explore the platform and evaluate its analytics before choosing a paid plan.

About Sandman Sports

Sandman Sports started with three longtime friends who love sports, fantasy contests and competition. After years of playing in and running contests ourselves, they saw the same frustrations over and over again. They believed there was a real gap in the market for something more creative, more flexible and built around what sports fans actually wanted.

That idea became Sandman Sports, a sports entertainment platform built by sports fans, for sports fans. Players can compete in public contests for cash prizes or create customizable private contests for friends, family, coworkers, fantasy leagues, country clubs, organizations and other groups. Sandman combines familiar games with innovative formats, while giving commissioners the tools to easily create and manage their own contests.

Sandman is also home to The Edge, our AI-powered sports prediction and analytics platform. The Edge analyzes thousands of data points to identify potential value, produce model-driven projections and deliver confidence-rated picks, while having the discipline to pass when the numbers don’t support a play.
